driver door not locking

Hey guys i have a 96 4.0 laredo basically the base model. and everytime i lock my door from the inside before getting out it will unlock with the shut of the door. So i use my keyless entry to lock it and that works. But ive been noticing that with the remote it makes winding noises and wont lock the door until the 5th try. Maybe skipping the lock mechanism?

Sounds like either a weak pwr lock motor , or , it's straining due to binding on the linkage . I would remove the door panel and try to lubricate things before replacing the lock motor .

Well, my 97 is making the same noise. VERY hard to explain. "Normally" and up to a week ago, one press of the key fob, "unlock" button would unlock the drivers door. One more press of the button would re-lock. A quick "clunk" that's all. Two presses would create the "winding" noise, and "everything" unlocked, doors, hatch, etc. Now in the last week, one press and "all" the doors make the winding (motor) noise, but nothing unlocks. Like it's locking everything, instead of unlocking. After two or three try's, I'll finally get the old familiar "clunk", and the drivers door will unlock. At that point if I give it two pushes, get the winding noise, and everything unlocks, as it's supposed to do. New battery in Fob. What's going on?

LUBRICATION.
Open the panel up and give it a squirt.
