I have a 2000 Grand Cherokee, and the rear driver's side door will not lock OR unlock. I even tried MANUALLY unlocking the door, and it won't budge. It doesn't make any noise when locking or unlocking. I've already replaced one door lock actuator on the front right passenger door, but on that door I was at least able to manual lock and unlock the door. This rear driver's side door won't even move from the LOCKED position. So how do I even begin to fix it? What's going on?

Let me know what you find please! Mine's in the locked position, so I'm safe for now.

Start by removing the door and checking the linkages. It probably came off or broke the plastic tab on the inside.
I think for the rear door there are only two screws, one behind the door handle (for opening) and one inside the door handle (for closing). One is a phillips, the other is a small torx (like T20). Check out www.wjjeeps.com for instructions on removing the door panels if you can't figure it out.

Just the door panel, not the door. There are maybe 10-15 clips around the perimeter of the door that'll be difficult to pop off, but it is doable.

You think most likely it is NOT the door lock actuator and more the handle?

I think you need to open it up and find out for yourself I think that the fact that you can't manually lock/unlock it suggests something is wrong with the linkage and not the actuator.

Appreciate your help. Will try to take off the panel this weekend. I have a feeling it's not going to be fun.

Better buy some clips, because you are going to break some, if not all of them.

When you pull the pane, just compare it to the others that Autozone has. Won't find the exact one, but you'll find something close.

I can't get the door panel off. I removed two screws, but since the door is shut and can not be opened, it can't remove the trim panelling. Any suggestions?

You can try removing the trim panels around it to see if you can get to the panel. I've honestly never had to do what you're doing.
