This is a cool post.

I remember first seeing the ZJ in a car magazine back in the early '90s. At that point my old man was looking for a new vehicle, and I mentioned that the new Jeep looked pretty cool and he should check it out. He ended up buying one of the first in Colorado...a bare bones I-6 Laredo just like the one pictured, and I loved that thing. He must have loved it, too, because he ended up replacing the '93 with a '95, which he then replaced with a '98 (that I now own).

The first time I saw a WJ I almost cried. The classic muscular boxy shape was long gone. The WJ has since grown on me, but I don't think any Grand can beat the looks of a '98 Limited with it's color matched cladding.

Edited to add pic:

Agreed 100%. Doesn't hafta be a Limited though, my SE has the color matched cladding.

What size tires are those? I can't wait to get my MT/Rs.

Sorry, forgot about the SEs. They don't have the color coded grill though.

They're 245/75 R16s off a Rubi. IMO you can't beat the MT/R!

You got me on the grill

Thanks...those tires fill the wheel well nicely. I'm gettin 235/75/15s, a little (hardly) bigger than the 225's on it now, looks kinda odd with the 2" lift.

That'll look great. If you haven't already bought the tires you could also fit 245s on there with the amount of lift you have. Might even be able to pick some up off a Rubi for cheap.

The main reason crysler pruchased Jeep back in 1987 was the ZJ concept. They new they sould sell the crap outa it... The YJ just hitched a ride on the Uni-body Jeeps sales (XJ, ZJ)

I didn't think the MT/Rs came in a 245

I dont understand why you think 93 was the best year? What made it any better then the other years? one thing that made it worse was the fact it had rear drum brakes..in my opinion anyways. I dont see why its any better?

that 89 they show has the 98 5.9 rocker clading wounder if thats where they got the idea. verry interesting to see the progression of a concept to production it would also be interesting to see what options they started off concidering as bais and fully loaded for a contrast to now.

Yeah but you have a 16" rim, I have 15's.

If I had more money, I would get different rims, but I can't so I have to stay stock.

You have a real sharp ZJ though, set up really nice.

Thanks for the complement. Yeah, you could just go with a 31X10.5 on the 15" rim...it's roughly the equivalent to the metric 245 size.

Maybe that'll be for down the road sometime, I don't know how long I'll have the ZJ, and don't want to dump a ton of money into it right now...that's all I've been doing lately, and all for accessories.

I placed the order for the MT/Rs today...should be here Weds. or Thurs. of next week.
