Do you even need the VIC?

So I see tons and tons of threads on people repairing the VIC...but do you even need it? Mine says (figuratively) everything is going wrong with my '93, but everything is fine. Can I just get rid of that thing and have a nice storage cubby?

It's a neat 90s-style onboard "computer" but it's purely an information unit, it doesn't actually do anything to run the vehicle. You can safely remove it if you wish.

Trash it. Go to the local JY and pull a cubby to replace it with.

There's about a thread a week on this, you don't need it.

Only thing useful is the time and maybe the indication on a door or the rear hatch not latched and low coolant, and ...

Hmm. Maybe I need to get out my soldering gun. When I get a round tuit.

I have seen some very useful switch pods made to go in that area. I like mine and it doesn't irritate me, I changed the display to blue to match the other pod lighting.
