Ditch the manual fan for dual electric's on 04 WJ?

I know the WJ's come with an electric aux fan for the manual fan, but I was thinking of ditching the manual all together for a universal dual fan setup for fuel economy? I know it's a clutch fan and should disengage under power, and it does fine, but I've never been a fan of manual fans. Has anyone ever done this?

If it is a factory electric fan it is not manual, as a thermostat turns it on and off.

I'm confused

I mean it's manual as it's connected to the water pump and runs, not an electric fan which is activated via computer

Now I am very confused! If you have a 2004 6 cylinder GC, you have a factory electric fan. If the fan blade is connected to the water pump someone changed it.

I'm not sure about the v8s but most of the 4.0 WJ that had the towing option got BOTH (belt driven and E-fan) fans.

If your just gonna get rid of it, how much do you want for it? and what is your zip code?

It's not aftermarket, it's factory. I do have a tow option so maybe that's why it's on there. My mom bought the jeep new so I know it hasn't been changed. So if I just ditch it, would I be ok? I'd rather have dual fans, maybe I can get dual universal puller fans.....

If I do take it, I don't wish to sell it, I keep everything I take off

ive been wondering this also. i know some jeeps only have electrical fans but i have noticed that mine has the mechanical and the electric. so if the mechanical is taken out will it affect the the temperature of the engine and will it give better performance?

There was a 'max cooling package' that gave you the mechanical clutch-driven fan plus the electric fan... I personally have both fans on my 4.7.

Theoretically, if you took out the mechanical fan you would have less parasitic drag on the motor and you could potentially gain some mpg's... I would replace it with another electric fan as the initial post suggested.

i wonder if you put a second electric fan in if you could splice into the stock fan's thermometer.

I wonder if I could do away with the manual and the electric and go with a whole new dual fan setup.

My electric fan is as big as it can get - is your electric fan smaller? Where do you plan on putting the electric fan?

It's an electric fan the size of the radiator.. not real "thick" though compared to the pitch of the blades on the clutch-driven fan.

If I am not mistaken the towing package for the 4.0 came with a "heavy duty" manual fan rather than the all electric one because it doesn't have enough cooling capacity.
