Dipstick tube

I have the 5.2. The *******s that installed my motor bolted the tube to the alternator bolt and it does not line up with the motor. I cant get the dipstick in and I have a small leak which I think this is the cause. Where should it be bolted to? Any pics? Thanks.

i hate to say this, but i cant find the pics of me engine before we started taking it appart. I am gona kick myself in the *** for this. not only for the fact that i cant help you out, but more importianly... i have to put my engine back together in a few weeks! but do know 3 people with V8 ZJs, 2 of them are good freinds... but theirs are all 93-95, not 96-98 model like mine, so my fingers are crossed.

hey, there is an idea..... do you know anyone with a V8 ZJ? thats what i would do if i were you.

EDIT: went through my pics and found this, guess i didnt get all of em into my photobucket/

looks like it bolts onto the side of the alternator, where did yours bolt up?

It bolts to the accessory bracket just below the alternator. Easy fix. Should pull right out. Clean it and apply just a little RTV this time around.

Mine was bolted to the back of the bottom bolt on the alternator (where the nut goes). Not the side like shown. I had an oil change on Saturday and it took me and the guy about a half hour to get the stupid dipstick in.

Thanks for the photo, I am going to fix it when I get home. Unfortunately I am the only one I know blessed with a ZJ lol.

The tube is a precise press fit into the block. I hope the tube isn't damaged. If it is, let me know...I think I have one.
