I don't know a whole lot about mechanics so forgive me if this is a noob question.
I recently went mudding with some buddies in my stock zj. It was recommended to me that I check my differential fluids to make sure water hadn't gotten in. I'm wondering how water would get in, and also what I can do to keep it out if this is going to be an issue.

The diff cover might have a leak, if your vent tube has falen off, water will easily find it's way in, if the seals are bad, that could also let water in, the diff plug might let a small amount in, etc etc. You can't really keep it out, just make sure after everytime you go anywhere there is high water or mud, to check the diffs after.

Water can leak in through the seals, its just something that happens. There is not much you can do about it. Just change your fluid and you'll be fine.

When a diff is hot and you put it in cold water it will draw water in as it cools, even if all seals are good.

Thanks for the replies guys. I'm learning as I go. B)
Where can I find the vent tube to take a look at the cover? Also, is this an issue with the tc and trans as well?
