Defrost blowers

Has anybody else had problems with their 98 GC Laredo and the blowers switching from the panel to the defroster? Especially when I'm on the highway and the cruise is engaged. I press the cancel button or step on the brake for a second and the panel blowers return to normal. This is very annoying.
Also, my back hatch won't open most of the time. It's unlocked but the handle won't disengage for the hatch to lift. I can't figure it out. Any help?? Thanks so much. --Brent
