Current mods: 703 injectors(my howto), intake modification, 99+ intake manifold (my howto), Cherry Bomb glasspack.
It is not directly related to this thread in regards to the injector upgrade. But since you will need to remove the fuel rail anyway to do the intake manifold why not do both mods in one shot?

they redesigned the intake in 99 to make it more efficient which added like 10 or 12 more hp I believe... thats why the factory HP ratings jumped in 99...

It actually went down by 5hp in 99...the redesign was done to help offset the emissions crap they had to put on because of the government but even with it it still went down...

The latter 4.0s suffered all sorts of problems from trying to get them running cheaper and cleaner...its a shame really.

The 99+ inline 4.0 intakes are double the air flow of the previous models....and better design for better flow. I think the old models are something like 2.5l capacity and the new are 4.3l.
There is stuff all over youtube showing this....

Well besides the M1 intake install, I just put the 703's in my 5.9. Runs perfectly!!! Idles very, very nicely... no complaints at all... so I would say that according to Auggies experince... the Dodge and Jeep 5.9's are different, because mine runs prefectly!!!

1998 ZJ 5.9 limited in white. M1 intake and $20k+ mods brewing up in my head... SOLD

Looking for the right WJ to build into an expedition rig....

Yeah, I will go with the upullit special for $50 our less.....can't believe that one would make that huge of a difference to warrant the high price over the 99+ model

What about the other jeep guys with the same issues? we may have all had bad injectors I guess..
The smaller ones I'm using now are working good and the figures on the scanner look good also so I'm not just guessing...however I have noticed no MPG or power gains over stock myself.. I only have 120 miles on them so well see after the pcm finishes learning and adjusting..

I will say one of the trade offs to running rich is more power so that may be were some of the claims to more power are coming from...(or the previous injectors were plugged)
What really makes my skeptical is all the claims to more power AND way better gas mileage...

The m1 is designed for wide open throttle racing applications....
You dont really have any power gains over stock until you approach 5,000 rpm... and unless you make other accommodations to the motor for the m1 you will actually loose a bit of power and torque in the normal driving powerband vs a stock kegger.... this has been explained many times and proven with dyno results...

The Chrysler and ford and chevy engineers used the long individual runner design to tune extra torque and power in the normal powerband at the expense of some power above 5,000rpm where many of use dont even go on a daily basis so....

And before everyone with m1 style intakes get all up in a roar , yes if the engine is modified enough and can breath well enough with better heads and such the m1 can make more power in the lower rpm range than a stock engine too....(but it really isnt due to the intake but rather the other mods in conjunction to allow better breathing)...
