Deer

Monday morning, 8 am. I hit a deer driving from Athens to Savannah 30 min. into a 4 hr. trip. made it home, went straight to the jy, and there was a fresh 97 with all new lights, header panel, supports, and grill. 80 dollars and a few hours later I was back in business. I got lucky. No damage beyond the two metal braces behind the header panel. I got even luckier finding that jy zj that had just been put out, with fresh front end parts no less!

That is REALLY lucky... When I hit a deer back in MO, it was Bumper, Grille, Grille supports, Radiator, A/C Pack, and even the Front Headlight Wiring Harness, Headlamps, Bezels, and the associated junk...

Forgot to post this picture. I found this while dismantling the front end. Yes, that is deer droppings! It was in the headlight housing on the driver side! I can honestly say "that scared the sh** out of him!"
And I know he was driving to Savannah because of his bumper sticker...

That's the reason why I have installed a tough bull bar.

..which I'd bet my money on isn't in fact tough at all, and would most likely get bent from hitting a squirrel

To the OP - that isn't too bad damage from hitting a deer.. I guess you weren't doing 75mph on a freeway when it happened? But you guys are lucky anyways, you only get deer.. We've got moose all over the place, and hitting one in anything smaller than a semi tractor (or a locomotive) will usually result in severe damage to the vehicle and also injuries/ deaths to the occupants.

Yeah.. I'd bet if you hit a deer with that, it would just push back into your header panel and do more damage than if it wasnt there.

I don't think so.... It's really solid and fixed to the frame. If I'll hit a deer I tell you how it goes.

The cruise was set on 65. The state patrol is notorious for sitting on the side of georgia backroads running radar while eating doughnuts... Not to mention the small town sherriffs looking for "additional revenue".
It was real foggy and he came out of nowhere. He was in the air when I first saw him. He was coming from my left to right. It seemed like those big brown eyes were staring right at me. I hit the brakes and turned as much as possible. The last thing you want to do on this road is run off the side. Very little room before you drop anywhere from 10 to 20 feet into the swamp.
People hit deer all the time around here, and most of the time the damage is much worse.
I can't imagine hitting a moose!

Yeap, we do! Heck, we even had four different colours to pick from - dark slate, platinum, patriot blue, and ??? green

As for that bull bar, it won't survive a bull - or a deer. As I mentioned earlier, it'd most likely get dented by hitting a squirrel..
