Decel Noise from front - Help

I have an 02 QD with 130k miles. The miles are mostly highway and the jeep is not beaten.

I have a shallow growling noise coming from the front of the vehicle. Its louder on decel but present during constant speed from 20mph on up. I've already replaced both wheel bearings, all fluids w/LSD modifier, and have new tires. The sound has been bugging me for about 20k miles.

I put the jeep on a lift and ran it up to 30mph but no noise... I guess its only present with a load.

I'm about to tape a microphone to the front diff to determine if it is the source. I've read it could be the pinion bearing. I'm not sure if it is or isn't and I don't know if thats a big job or not.

Suggestions welcome. Are there any upgrade options for a QD Limited?

you most likely need to rebuild your front diff.

Yep, sounds like a pinion bearing. Might as well replace the carrier bearings as well while you're in there.

if only carrier and pinion bearings (and seals) are required then count on $650 or so.

I had mine completed a while ago for $600. basically 4 hours labor plus a bearing/seal kit.

I wouldn't rule out the TC. I had a couple now go bad with similar symptoms.
