Daystar 2" lift for '02 Overland
Ok, I know pickup truck suspensions like the back of my hand. But to conserve fuel and usage of my lifted Dodge Hemi, I've been taking my '02 Overland from central Fl. to my small farm I own in central Ga., a 360 mile trip each way.
I'm having some ground clearance issues, and recently ripped up an O2 sensor wire and had to repair it, not to mentioned "buttomed out" the skids a couple times leaving some nice dried Ga. red clay "reminders" under the Jeep. Since I already own a lifted truck with 35" tires, I don't want to go crazy with the Jeep, as it's my daily driver. But by the same token, being a 4 wheel drive Overland, there is no reason I can't use it for hunting/fishing/camping as well. I'm looking at putting Daystar 2" spacers in. My questions: How are they compared to other spacers? According to them, I can retain my stock Overland shocks, have y'all found this to be true? Any bottoming out issues off-road with the stock shocks? Also, and I know it probably gets asked daily but since I started the thread anyway, what is the biggest A/T tire I can go to with the stock rims and 2" of lift with good articulation and no rubbing at full turn. My thanks in advance, Hammer...

All spacers are the same, so just find the cheapest ones. The stock shocks will work but might wear out faster if you run them hard. 245/70/17 will fit without rubbing under flex, but 265/70/17 will require trimming of the front plastic bumper cover.

Thanks, the 245/70/17s will be enough for my purposes. I've always been a huge Mickey Thompson/**** Cepek tire fan. Had one or the other on my last three lifted pickups, never a problem with a single one with some pretty rough usage.
That size will let me get into a Mickey ATZ... One last question, I know with any kind of level kit or suspension lift on a truck (pretty much any type of lift except a body lift) it is necessary to have an alignment done. Is this necessary after installing the coil spacers on my Overland?

Yep after you finish the lift, take it and get an alignment.

I'm not much of an ebay guy, so I didn't check there, but I found a set of spacers at Rocky Road outfitters for $109, most of the places I use for my truck stuff are all around $129-149, so unless anyone has any horror stories in dealing with them, I'm going to go with those.
Even though my truck is a torsion bar front, I've done full suspension and body lifts on full size coil over front trucks before, so I have all the tools necessary, a 220v compressor, air tools, floor jack and four jack stands rated to hold my 7000# truck, so the install shouldn't be a problem for me at all. It was pretty much the what to buy and what could I fit and if I needed an alignment, I needed the info on. I'll be putting the spacers on as soon as the UPS man brings them, and my local Jeep dealer is running an alignment special with a coupon, so that will happen within a day or two of the spacer install. My only issue is I may have to ride with the oem tires for a month or two until I can save the coin to do the ATZs I want... Thanks for the answers...

Wow, I only got through the first two pages. That's why I asked if there were any horror stories. I ordered before I saw your post, but luckily for me, I decided to take vosevich's advice and went with the better price at Fat Bob's Garage...
![]() It cost me $1700 to lift my truck 4" with a Rancho Suspension Lift three and half years ago, and that's with me a buddy doing the install! I can't complain about $100 to go up 2" on the GC! I know a full suspension kit and coil spacers are apples to oranges, but still, wow!!! ![]() This will be perfect for me, the GC will always be my daily driver. I just needed something to get a smidge more clearance and be able to put a real A/T tire on it. I've yet to put a single plug in my 35" FCIIs in hundreds of off road trips, fishing, hunting, etc. I've already put two plugs in my BFG Traction T/A, soccer mom tires in just three trips up there... ![]()
