Dayco or Gatorback

I just bought a Dayco and installed it cause my old Gatorback was lose and was not charging my alternator so I put the new belt in and it started to charge again but I have to press on the gas paddle to kick the alternator on. I am getting 13.44 at idle but have to press the gas paddle. So I bought a Gatorback belt for 15.00 bucks since I had it in there last time and had no charging problem with the Gaterback belt. what's with Dayco??

Whichever belt is made from EPDM ruber is the one to buy. EPDM does not crack the ribs from wear and fail due to that. EPDM just wears the ribs like a car tire wears it tread, slooowly.

Most, if not all of the bigger chain autoparts stores have the gauge you'll need to measure EPDM belt wear. It kinda looks like a toothpick but, unlike toothpicks that you buy at Kroger, these are absolutely free.

sorry for the confusion my old belt was to lose and was not charging my alternator and start squealing and whining the other day. I went to auto zone and picked up a Dayco belt and found that It kind fixed of problem but not really, I have to press the gas peddle to kick the alternator on and its stays charging. I feel the Dayco is to not tight enough or the grip sucks compared to Gartorback belts.

Stay away from Dayco belts... I have gone through 3 of those suckers and they always go bad at about 3-4k miles. I have replaced pully's idle pullers, new waterpum (not for that reason) and a tensioner and the belts still go bad..

I bought a more expensive nappa belt and it seems to do a much better job at keeping quiet then the dayco belt. So far no issues, if you look that name up on google other people have the same issues with dayco. The problem seems that dayco belts stretch way too much. Mine were all stretched out and so were the other people who had issues with dayco on google.

did you have the same problem where it was not gripping the pulleys and kind of charging the alt but not really?
