Dashboard Lights and HVAC Stopped Working.. Video Inside

It all started with my blinker on the dash not always working. Meaning I would turn on the blinker, the light would come on the dash but wouldn't always flash on and off. Sometimes it would flash on and off and some times it wouldn't. Then the turn singnal would stay solid on the dash when turned on. All the turn signal lights front and rear work when it is turned on.

Then lately I started noticing my dash lights dimming and brightening on their own. Kind of flickering, not noticable but I caught it.

Then last night, my dashboard lights and HVAC just stopped illuminating. Then if I turned my turn signal on, and if the turn signal decided to flas on and off, it would make all my dash lights and HVAC lights turn on and off with my turn signal. Or is my turn signal stayed solid on the dash, all my dashboard lights and HVAC lights remained solidly lit as well.

Also, if I applied my breaks, my dashboard lights and HVAC lights would flicker on and off......

Stupid electrical issues. Does anyone know how to fix this?

Well, I would start with the eaiest and see if your battery connections are good and tight. Then check fuses and electrical connections under the dash. Make sure everything is good and tight and no wires are cut or broken.

Battery is fine, hasn't been touched in quite some time. All fuses are fine, nothing isn't and isn't working that I know of. No wires have been cut or broken. Haven't wired anything up in the Jeep ever.

Ok some more things I noticed.

This is all happens when the head light switch is in the AUTO position!!

-As you saw in the video ALL lights are out (dash board, HVAC, GDM, Drive selector [P R N D 2 1], and all my Selec-Trac lights)

-Radio still lights up on its own

-When my head lights are on, in the auto position or manual position, my tail lights DO NOT light up. Got stopped tonight from a LEO to warn me.

-Break lights still light up as normal when you press the break pedal

-When the head lights are in the AUTO position and you tap the breaks, ALL lights that are mentioned in the first part of list and as seen in the video all flicker, turn on and off.

-When the head lights are in the MANUAL position, when I hit the break pedal, none of the above mentioned happens. All lights remain off

-When head light switch remains in the MANUAL position, when you go to open the drivers side door, the chime to let you know that your head lights are still on doesn't go off at all

I think that is all that I've noticed and that I can think of for now.

All my above problems that I mentioned and what you've seen In the video, is that all related to the head light, dimmer and fog light switch??

Many of those functions are controlled by BCM... which responds to switch/dimmer positions. Sounds like bad switch/dimmer module or loose connections.

Good thread for repairing switch/dimmer module... HERE

Or grab one from JY.

I plan replacing it in Thursday, that's when I'm off and will have some free time.

How hard is it to get that head light, fog light and dimmer switch panel out?

Wondering if I should buy a new one or gets JY one?

I switched my headlight/fog switch module about 3 times until I found a working one in from the junk yard. It take about 4 or 5 screws to get it off take the trim off, I believe there is 3 in the module itself. You will have to take a few off the dash too, just so you can get to them all on the module. If I were you just buy a new one, save the old one and take it apart if you like tedious projects and resolder the connections. Hope that helped a little.

Removing the faux wood trim isn't the problem, I just never removed the whole headlight switch assembly. Someone told me you need to remove part of the lower dash to get access to the bottom screws in the headlight switch assembly??

What junkyard we hitting up? Lol

My honest opinion is snatch that from advanced only because it has a limited lifetime warranty. The junkyard ones I got were free otherwise I would've bought from advanced also.

The JY in Summit.

I might either take mine out and solder it using the write up here or buy the one from Advance..

I've never soldered before, and it seems everyone says that it's an easy job...

Some people are saying, that if you repair or replace the headlight switch assembly, and if you still don't have tail lights then you need to check for lose connection between headlight switch and fuse panel for tailights ... no tailights = no dash lights.
