Dash Lights, More Like Dash Darks...

Hello everyone!

For some time now none of the lights in my dash, including the light for my shifter have not been working (with the exception of my aftermarket stereo head unit). My gauges and all of the controls still work, just won't light up.

When I turn my headlight knob on, I hear something like a cackling coming from behind the cluster or the stereo, it sounds kind of like a smaller & slower tazer. I thought it was the cluster at first, but I just replaced the cluster and the problem persists. The bottom row of lights on the cluster still work (brights, ABS, check engine, etc), gauges don't light up, AC control is dark, and shifter is dark.

Any ideas? Fuses are all good. I fear this may be a bigger electrical problem within the dash.

Time to verify how that aftermarket radio was wired. It's probably got the wrong wire hooked up somehow, the stock radio has a wire from the dash light circuit.

Could it be a loose connection? Or perhaps a crossed wire? It worked fine with the radio up until the lights went out. I'll take a look at it tomorrow when it's light out

You were right Foundry it was an issue with the wiring behind the stereo, all I did was take the head unit out and the lights started working again. I repacked the wiring a little cleaner this time and took the opportunity to clean my cluster gauge bezel in the sink
