I found my AC only blew out of defroster, after tracing all my vacuum lines I found the line going into the "mode door" was just dangling loose, and I can't seem to find where to plug it in. I desperately need my ac in the Florida heat ! See attached pictures.
If I'm looking at it right the "mode door" is electrically operated. The mode door arm #39 looks like it goes into the electric motor #38. Since the system has defaulted to defrost is it possible that is your supply line? Does it have vacumn applied? Do any of the lines have vacumn applied?
This line is coming off the door that switches from defrost vents to air vent. I can push the arm down with my finger and it comes out the vents but without vacuum applied it closes again. I believe it is part #6 on your chart.
There is a green line that is cut. Is it possible the green is supposed to go the vacuum motor that switches defrost to panel ? Looks like a PO might have re routed around that with this black tubing. The black tubing pictured does not match the rest of the tubes. If you see in my first picture a brown vac line with a elbow piece, there is a green one dangling not connected. So this is prob some kinda hack job Im lookin at ?
Thank you zedjay. I will try to get some spare line and some connectors tomorrow to get that hooked back up right. Any ideas on where this black line could have been plugged into to have the panel vents blowing previously ? Thanks for all the help so far guys
A Jeep AC guru once told me that there's a vacuum line on the passenger side of the trans tunnel that can get pulled loose. If it does, the only way to reconnect it is to pull the dash. I hope you don't have that particular problem
Just went out and looked under the dash of my 96 4.0 manual system. The brown and yellow lines are correct where they are. The green line w/elbow goes on the bottom of the upright diaphragm as 96zedjay already pointed out. You may need to pull the HVAC control unit out of the dash and see if the OP didn't somehow run a new black vacuum line, which is bigger than most/not OE, as the main switch feed. Check the outside of the firewall in the engine compartment where the evaporator tubes go through for the a vacuum line coming off of the "T" which is normally the main switch feed. Typically it's a small black plastic line going through the firewall next to the AC tube which tends to break. Maybe the OP ran that larger black line instead somehow? Good luck.
I wanted to update you guys on my issue. I removed the dash controls so I could get a better look at the lines. I found the two pieces of green tube that had been cut/broken. I fed the black line through the side of the dash and pulled it to the HVAC control cavity. From there I hooked it up to the green line coming from the control panel. The system then returned to normal operation ! I will be dropping by the parts store to get some T fitting and extra line so I can fit the hose on more securely. Thanks for all the replies !
