Dana 35 swap with Dana 44

If someone could answer this it would be appreciated.
Will a Dana 44 rear axle off of a 97 ZJ with a V8 bolt directly on to a 97 ZJ with the 4.0L that has a Dana 35?

Yes its completely bolt up

But... you will have to make sure it has the same gear ratio and shorten your driveshaft

98' ZJ 4.0

wj rear axles will not bolt up though, get a 44a out of a 96-98 v8

they came from the factory with 3.73 gears or 4.10s i think? im not 100% but they didnt have 3.55s

98' ZJ 4.0

They came factory with 3.73s and 3.55s. 3.73s came in all v8's and 4.0s with the tow package. all other 4.0's came with 3.55s

swap 35 for 44 seals

I'm putting Dana 44s in my 1997 tj with 35s is there a pinyon seal to keep my 35 yoke?

I switched my 44a to a 35 and am really happy I did. The 44a is known to wreck the bearings in the housing and they use different (and much more expensive) gears than a standard 44. However, I do not really do any offroading (yet) and when I do I will look into at least a standard 44 front & rear or a custom 60 front & rear.

Unless you got a very good deal on the 44a and/or your 35 is dead I'd stick w/ the 35. I went the other way, my 44a was dead and a 35 w/ 3.73s & a working posi was only $200.

The 44s were. Free out of a 2003 Rubicon with e lockers and 4.11s my 35s are good but I wanted the lockers and lower gears
