CV to U-joint style drive shaft

My front drive shaft has a CV join in it.. my 94 ZJ had a u-joint where it connected to the axle but not my 95.. If I go get a u-joint drive shaft from a junk yard how do I take it out of the axle and what all is required to swap it??

Thanks
Diillon

here is a pic of mine...

i think with the 249 transfer (which i would assume you have) you are supposed to have the cv. something about the u joints binding to much harming the case? i think thats what i've heard but im not sure.

yes this is true for the half shafts that power the tires.. but I am wondering about the actual Drive Shaft that powers the axle

Wrong CV spife ... Dillon is referring to the CV driveshaft.

To remove the U joint type you just have to remove the 4 bolts that go into the yoke.

You can get a yoke for a u-joint conversion from a donor XJ. You can also get the driveshaft from said donor. It's actually very smart to do when going above 3-4" lift height.

Be careful not to mess up the pinion preload when you take out the yoke. Best to have a driveline shop do the yoke swap for you.

As does mine.

Dillon, the yoke is held in by the pinion nut, huge amounts of torque. Removing it isn't really the hard part, it's reinstalling without messing up the front axle.

Yo!
Any luck DillionZJ? My '95 GC just blew out the cv joint that youre talking about (to the axle) and trying to find a replacement has been tough! I can't seem to find it seprate from the drive shaft (DS=$790.00 at dealer!!!wtf!) Someone recommended doing the conversion you're talking about but changing out the yoke to do so sucks.

Does anyone know where to find just the lobro894 cv joint?? Other than a junk yard....thanks!

I've owned a 95 with a 249, and a 98 with a 249 and both had the u-joint style shaft. I was shocked when I got under the 5.9 and saw the same style dillion has. I didnt think they had that in 95.
