Coolant Sensor Bad

Hey guys! I have a 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee ZJ with the 5.9L V8. The VIC started giving me the error "Coolant Sensor Bad". I was reading online that in the 96 the VIC was only wired to the coolant level sensor. If that's the case then the sensor must be bad because my coolant levels are fine. I'm just wondering if this VIC error is connected to the heat gage on the dash. Just curious as to any information someone might have on this error and if I'll be able to tell if my engine is overheating or not. Thanks!

It is most likely bad solder joints on the vic, the coolant sensor pins are at the edge of the connector and often fail first.

It can be the sensor in the coolant tank but that is less common.
