Coolant gauge flux

Hey guys

So I've noticed today and a few days ago something interesting with the coolant gauge in my ZJ. during the colder mornings, the coolant temp will rise to about 210, then suddenly drop to the quarter mark quickly.

I'm not sure what might be causing this? Part of me worries the T-stat, but not sure. I've only noticed it lately on these colder days, and only when I have the heat running inside my car, but for all I know it could be happening a lot more and I'm only now noticing.

Anyone have ideas?

Thanks

Sounds like it could be the thermostat. It's an easy fix, just two bolts and really cheap. I'd replace it, just in case.

What's the proper T-stat for a 4.0 ZJ in the northeast region? 185 or 195? I can never remember.

This happened to me when I had air trapped in with the coolant, so you might need to burp it.
