Confirmation for WJ front driveshaft swap...
I've researched this topic for the last day and believe I have my answer and resolution but I just want to make sure I haven't missed anything during my search.
I have a 00 WJ I6 with a 4 inch lift. I have the stock front drive shaft on it which is a CV at both ends with boots on both as well. This will be the 2nd time I've had to replace this.
So, as I researched here, I read that any 02 WJ or newer has a different drive shaft that has a Single u joint @ the diff and a double @ the TC? I also read that I will need a new yoke at the axle end but not at the TC end? I've read a lot about the torque specs for the crush sleeve and how not to mess that up.
Is all of my research correct? Or did I misunderstand something?
Thanks for the help guys!

I've called up carolina driveline and they are pretty expensive. The Jeep is my DD. Well not even that. It pretty much sits in the driveway for the most part cause I walk to work. I live like a minute away from my office. So I'm just looking at doing an upgrade that will last but is not on the expensive side. Thanks for the info!

define expensive? Spending $400 on a Carolna shaft that bolts in without mucking with the dif yoke, or not gettingthe dif yoke set properly and replacing the front gears in 5000 miles cause they are toast from inproper pinion nut torque, about $500 or more depending on mechanic.

You lifted your jeep to 4", things start to get expensive at that height. If you wanted to stay lower on the budget, should have went with a smaller lift.
Get the correct driveshaft the first time and you won't have to deal with it again.

Thanks for the info! I thought the carolina one needs new yokes as well. At least that's what I was told a few months back when I called them. Maybe I misunderstood what was said. So the carolina one from what you're saying is a direct fit. Unbolt the old one, throw that POS in the garbage and the carolina one bolts right in?
Nevermind. I just gave them a call and I got all setup with the info. Thanks again guys! I appreciate it!

That is what it should do. They are able to make those. Call them and talk to them. Tell that you a direct replacement where you don't have to replace the yokes.

Yea, you tell them the setup you got right now and your lift height and they will send you a driveshaft with flanges that bolt right up. No need to buy new yokes or anything. Carolina quoted me $300 for the same setup your wanting.
Either that or go raid your nearest junkyard to try and find some C4C WJs with a DC driveshaft.

One thing to keep in mind is that the adapter yoke from the diff is not as strong as a regular u-joint style yoke and if you break one you can't just pick one up at NAPA.

if you snap that adapter yoke you were abusing your rig.
atleats 3-4 people on here have that adapter have wheel with it No problems

I'm not saying its junk, just pointing out a few pros and cons that weren't mentioned. I had Randy at Carolina Driveline build me a shaft recently, which BTW is a quality made shaft made to specific length. I asked him alot of questions about what my options were. He said I could get the bolt on an go route(cv style yoke adapter) or I could get a u-joint style yoke. He said the u-joint style is stonger and I could easily get one at any parts store incase I needed one. Your right, if your breaking that yoke you are running too hard in most cases. You could easily drop off a rock and break one too. If your out somewhere where you have to have 4wheel drive to get back out then your gonna be glad your buddy can go down to the parts store and get one instead of having a special yoke sent to you from S. Carolina.

well i was in your situation. i had busted 2 cv shafts and was fed up. i got a front shaft from an 02 and both yokes for 90 bucks. swapped them out and everything has been fine since then. just make sure you torque the pinion nut correctly or you will have some big problems like tsconver mentioned.

I would have went that route but have too much lift. That would probably be your best bet kwb18 since its your daily driver and your only 4"s of lift.

I've researched to pinion nut specs and I believe I'm set. Some really good info on this site for that.
