Computer

Ive got a 96 ZJ Limited. My power locks and passenger side heated seat do not work. I'm wondering if anybody knows if I take it to the dealership for a Scan, if the scan could tell me what the problem could be? The dealership said it "Might" tell me, but he wasnt completly sure. Basically, I dont want to spend $50 for nothing if they cant tell me what the problem is. Anybody with any experience with this?
Thanks

A scan isn't going to bring anithing up for that. Check the fuses. Heated seats all stop working eventually, the wires in the seat break.

Checked all the fuses and relays. You can hear the solenoids clicking in ALL the doors, including the hatch when you hit the power lock switch, but nothing happens...it arms the alarm though which is good, but still a pain to reach around and unlock the other 3 doors for people in a snow storm. Just frustrated that nobody can tell me what the problem could be. As far as the heated seat, dont really bother me as much as it does my Girlfriend when its -16C outside haha

BTW...could the relay under the hood for the alarm/auto shut down be the problem or maybe that makes no sense what so ever?

The relay for the door locks is located behind the glove box (and possibly the seat heater relay?) But the relays are very robust. The door lock issue is many times a bad wire located inside that rubber boot that protects the wire loom from the body to the door.

Or if you're extremely unlucky like me, it's the actuator...I went through 3 of the suckers before I found a good one

On a 96, there's supposedly a door lock and a door unlock relay. As Steve said, very unlikely that it's bad. Perchance, does the switch on the passenger door work? That would tell you if:

1) You have a pinched wire near the door hinge
or
2) You have a bad control panel in the driver door.

I've heard it said that the driver door panel has the Driver Door Module, which is supposed to control the signal going to all doors, and the driver door lock functions. Then, the passenger side is supposed to have the Passenger Door Module, which controls all other doors.

I suspect it's option 1, but we won't know until you try the passenger switch.

the seats are just fubar'd I have a 96zj too and I just turn on the heated seat switch to make the passenger THINK that they're going to get toasted buns. it usually works.

for the locks. I just wonder if it's the keyfob.. you do know that you need to press unlock twice to get the other doors to open right?

maybe the chip is cracked and not registering the second press. or perhaps you're too slow with it.. ?? there is a time limit on the 2nd press.

I dont have a KeyFob, And the passenger side door power lock switch dont work either, makes the sound of the relays clicking in all the doors, the same as the driver side door does. Checked all the wires in the doors, all seem fine. ?????

Did you pull back the boots at the door hinge to check the wires, or were you looking behind the vapor barrier behind the door panel?

Boots was what I was asking about - might not be a bad idea to check behind the panel, but I kinda doubt that's it.
