I had a friend drive the vehicle so I could listen on both sides, and I could never quite figure out what was clicking. Finally, I noticed that the Rear Upper Control Arm mounts had started to break away from the frame, and that was the source of my clicking. If your ZJ is lifted with short arms, check your rear UCA mounts for any signs of breakage, splitting or tearing. It's a fairly common problem. The fix is either to remove the mounts, repair the split or hole in the frame, then either replace the UCA mounts with aftermarket ones, or re-attach the stock brackets. This will take a good welder to fix this, as the ZJ frame is very thin and easy to burn through.
Thanks.

Not really something that an average garage mechanic can do, but it is pretty common. I'll throw up pictures of my UCA fix in a couple hours.

I have an 07 commander and I've been getting transmission over temp message. I took my vehicle to the dealer and they told me I have a leak and recommended replacing the adaptor plug, which I had done. Now the vehicle isn't shifting out of first when I test drove it. Any suggestions?

You likely cooked the solenoid and sensor. Maybe the valve bodies.
This would be a better place to find the answers you seek: http://www.jeepcommander.com/forums/

Or just go here instead.

An overheated transmission is very bad. A fluid change is the first thing I would do, along with changing the sensors mentioned above.

Here's one to add to oil leaks. I Had replace and checked everything under oil leaks and my Jeep was still leaking BAD! It was the the hex adapter that the oil pressure sending unit screws into. It doesn't have a gasket. It's just screwed into the block with some sealant. Here's what I did.ose the whole area down with degreaser, then remove the pressure sending unit, then the adapter. Clean the threads on the adapter off well, if you can do it without dropping gunk and grit into the engine, clean those threads off too. Coat the adapter liberally with PTFE thread sealer compound (or whatever you prefer) and reinstall it. Make sure you point the pressure sending unit port in the right direction before the sealant cures.
Hope this helps.

That's a new one I haven't heard yet, I'll throw it on there now. Thanks!

What is your voltmeter on the instrument panel reading?
If you see a zero reading there and its not charging, are you sure all the terminals/grounds are clean?
In the ZJ voltage regulation is done in the PCM, so if that part of the PCM is bad, you can have that problem. Probably time for a new one.

hey Jason, in your amazing write up, I felt like you were describing my ride. Its like you have been in my jeep before or something.. in reference to t what you said about flushing the heater core, you ask if windows are fogging up for no reason, cab smelling sweet.. well mine started doing these things only AFTER I flushed my heater core. suggestions?

Never seen the radio diagram repair. I'll throw up the VIC soldering write up now that you mentioned it. Check engine light code descriptions can be found pretty much anywhere on Google. Bumper build/tire carrier aren't really repairs. Transfer case swap is in the stickies.

Time for a new heater core. Just did mine two months ago. Not a hard job, just time consuming.

I'm hoping it helps them as much as the forum and people have helped me over the years.

Tried to make it so less searching was required, and putting all the links saves time as well.
