But if we were able to stop faster, wouldn't we be rear ended harder?? So we should get smaller brake pads!

Its kinda funny how this recall thing crops up right after Chrysler sales were reported up mostly due to the JK and GM (Govt Motors) were down. Coincidence?

Does anyone here have/know of a Jeep skid-plate source(s)? Good after-market, no Jeep stamped brand.
The fire possibility as I understand it, the colliding rear-ending vehicle wedges under the Jeeps rear and ruptures the exposed tank. By the time the Jeep riders sense the situation, they are beginning to toast. My mall-crawlers has never been near a hitch and at 15yo, not happening. I'll fab the proper plate if need be.

In other news. My sister in law refuses to drive her liberty until its "fixed". They were headed to trade it in when this recall was announced.

Now it sits waiting for the official letter. Furthermore she can't drive a stick so she can't leave the house.

Well I just towed a 97 GC that was involved in a car accident. It was hit in the rear and drove off into some trees. No explosion.. Rear bumper was pretty much gone, but no explosion. This was in a 25mph zone around a curve as well.

Since I drive a tow truck for a living I see a lot of car accidents, and Ive yet to see a car on fire from impact. Most allcar fires are usually electrical related, at least from all that Ive seen. And Ive hauled some pretty mangled up rear ended cars.

Just my .02 on this matter. Pointless recall if you ask me.

I agree. Especially since those trucks are almost always loaded. That's a lot of kinetic force in a collision.

I have had a few zjs and currently have one zj and a wj. One of my zjs was creamed by a 2500 dodge in the rear, the hatch was touching the rear seat. No boom , I must be that lucky

Hey now, I remember riding to school in an old Rambler with a 3-speed transmission which shifted by buttons on the dash! It too was a classic but not like the 59 finned Belair which was a real classic. Take out all the Valients you want! LOL.

For those who do go for the hitch I bet the dealers are going to play havoc in attaching them to old rusted/corroded ZJ rear frames in the rust/salt belt.

That is just what Chrysler has played on up to this time. Its the few Jeep tanks get ruptured and pours on to a piping hot engine as the Jeeps rear axle is resting against the purp's wind shield. Who wants to bet their number isn't going to be in the barrel on that next freeway run and the jerk behind you is a text-master.

That trail-hitch scheme, they are betting are on snagging the hitter, same action as the freeway sand barrels. I'm surprised the brain-e-acts did not come up with the idea of attaching to the frame rails a 8" dia PVC pipe filled with sand to blow-out with an impact.

Wonder how much they would knock-off the price if an offer to hand them a new never use Chrysler trail-hitch?
