check out the "new" cladding for my laredo
Ok, so i got bored on monday and figured i would take off alllll of the plastic stuff on the laredo and paint it black. so after some light prepping and 4 cans of krylon fusion paint it was finished yesterday. i just put it back on and thought everybody should enjoy it along with me

Looks decent, but I think a grey would have looked nicer

looks good... on a Jeep your color i would have done it the same color as the body though
definately better than the grey plastic that as on there before though i left my plastic cladding off and herculined the metal where it used to be... also herculined my back bumper ( Hanson bumper is being put on the front)

Damn that looks much better than the grey. I have a black zj and I will probably attempt this. How hard was it to remove all of the cladding? I imagine front and rear bumpers are a no brainer, but how does one remove the rocker and door panels?

Next time my cladding looks bad (since i didn't use a adhesive promoter, primer, or clearcoat) I'm just going to color match the pearl green paint on my jeep. :-)

i like it... it doesnt make since to have black window trim, black door handles and black tires... then just throw on some grey cladding.. should have been black anyway. good job.

Man, that looks good!! I've got the exact same GC. Same color (Chargold) and faded gray cladding. I've been debating doing exactly what you did.
Krylon doesn't make their Fusion plastic paint in a charcoal or dark gray, only Satin Black, which is what I'm assuming you used. I had held off doing it because I wasn't sure how the black would look, but you've answered that question!! I now have a new project for a weekend!!

Looks great man. Very clean Jeep and the black trim sets off the color of it nicely. Now ive got the itch to paint mine. I havent done anything like that since i coated the whole exterior of my old XJ in black durabak bedliner. Now that was job!

thanks everybody. i suggest that if you want to do it you should go for it. its actually pretty easy. having no great selection of tools and me doing it by myself it only took me a couple of hours to get everything off and clean it up.
Derek33- its a 98' that just rolled 90100 miles. for prep i just cleaned it really well and wiped it down with "paint prep" from Griot's Garage. then using steel wool i scuffed everything thoroughly (even though Krylon states "no prep needed") and did 3 coats on everything, the first coat pretty light then getting progressively heavier..wasnt hard at all Ultimate157- the rocker panels are pretty easy, just one screw in the front wheel well and one in the back, then 4 plastic type rivets underneath (i found using needlenose pliers and a big flathead got them out; actually surprised i didnt break any)...the side panels take a little wiggling, you have to get them to pop out of the bottom of the clip then raise them over the top of it. and on the rear doors there is a nut on the inside of the dogleg that you have to remove first, then same process. hope that helps anybody who wants to pursue this project..just expect to maybe drive around with no plastic and your front plate ziptied to the front for maybe a couple of days (i certainly got some looks from my friends) but its all worth it as you can see
