Cheap Infinity radio upgrades? 98 ZJ

My wife has finally had enough of the tape player in her 98 ZJ (Infinity system). The task has fallen on me to upgrade it. Also all of her speakers are blown (bought it that way). Here's the thing, she doesn't really care too much about cool features and whatnot, so I was just going to pick up a used OEM CD player off ebay. I like the stock look and hassle free install, and I'm sure she would like simple features. How do I identify the Infinity CD players from all of the regular ones? # of harnesses? # of pins? Will they play burned CD's?

Also, I've heard mixed things about the speakers, are they 4 ohm or 6 ohm? Am I forced to buy replacements from the dealer? When I punched in my info on crutchfield it pulled up all 4 ohm models.

BTW, I should probably clarify what I mean by cheap - as in I don't want to invest in subs, amps, and an aftermarket head unit. I still want quality speakers though, obviously the stock speakers blew! I'd like something affordable, yet durable and well matched.

I would just go with an aftermarket one. My experience with the stock head units is that the buttons like to stop working as the get older, and the get really cranky about playing burned CD's.

The stock speakers are 2 ohm on the Infinity system. Infinity's Reference series are 2 ohm. They are always on sale at Crutchfield (2 for 1).

I'm running a VR3 head unit from Walmart through the rest of the entirely stock Infinity system in my 95 Limited. It has no problem at all with the built in amp. I used a harness adapter from Scoche (sp?) and it went right in with no problem.

Oh, yes. I did have one problem. It seems my VR3 deck is a lot deeper front to rear than stock. I had to leave the head unit sticking out of the dash about an inch because the back end is jammed against the heater ducting.

But as far as the radio working with the Infinity amp and everything? It's a plug and play system. And personally, I'd try and find a ZJ in the wrecking yard that still has good speakers and grab them. I can definitely hear everything just fine over all four windows down on the freeway. I personally went with a $50 200W amp from Walmart, two 10" subs I got from a friend and a pair of those $35 pre-built boxes from Walmart and bolted the whole assembly to the back of the rear seat. But I like my bass when I'm playing Down With The Sickness or Rockstar...

I just replaced all 4 of mine with Infiity 6022i from Crutchfield. They were on sale for $69.00 a pair. I like dealing with Crutchfield for the free adapeters, install sheets, wiring hooks ups & great customer service.

Sounds great to me. I'm 46 years old...so I don't crank it like I used to...but do enjoy nice clean sound.

These will bolt right in with the supplied adapter rings.

The 6022i replaced the 6012i that lots of guys are using. I saw a seller on Ebay had about 6 sets of the 6012i's on sale for $39-49.00 a pair. I think they were overstocks or returns.

I checked Crutchfield.com and the sale must be off. I took advantage of it this summer. I hear they do it quite frequently though.
