Can you mount lights on the stock bumper cover?

- Hi, I was wondering if i could mount a couple driving lights on stock bumper cover. Or, would it be too shaky and unstable to work any good? If anyone has done this could you post up some pics. Thanks

mount some metal angle brackets to the metal "bumper" under the cover, and then mount the lights to those

I forgot where I saw pictures of that, but basically they made metal tabs that attached to the metal bumper and drilled a hole though the plastic bumper cover and mounted the lights, worked fine.

Hella 500s all the way. That white ZJ with lights mounted on the bumper is exactly the same setup as me. I'll upload some pics. The only hard part is a little custom fabrication for mounting brackets. Just get a couple 90 degree steel brackets from Home Depot, take off the grille and you should see 2 bolts. Measure where to drill the holes on the brackets and go to town. You'll have to drill a hole on each side of the bracket. Pretty simple.
I went the simple route, I just worked out the placement I wanted with the grill and bumper on.. marked where the holes I needed in the plastic bumper. then I removed the plastic bumper, and drilled directly thew the plastic. took a piece of metal, about 3"x3", drilled a hole in the center, and used that as a big washer on the underside of the bumper. Then bolted them to the plastic bumper. reinstalled the bumper. It looks clean, the lights don't bounce around on the highway either.

Just uploaded a few pic's...

This is with the factory fogs that I picked up of a 96'

I was really happy with the mounting results. I just need to put some covering on the wires.

Did a little hack and tap in the vic. That plastic is real hard to play with, so you can see a little crack in it.

I like the look of the switches, The blue matches the blue in the dash lights, but I need to find a way to dim them down.

Very nice switch setup.
Still, the question is about mounting the lamps themselves.
Bracket them to a solid mouniting
grab em
twist em

I guess you skipped over some of that.. I didnt use the "L" bracket works just fine in the plastic bumper with no vibrations. But the OP has a WJ so he might need a different set up.

Mine are on brackets that bolt down under the grille. I don't remember if this is how the stock fog lights came or not, but thats how they're mounted. The bracket looks like a flattened, elongated Z from the side, and there are two cutouts from the bumper cover to allow them to poke though. I'll get some pictures tomorrow.

i hear of a lot of people that put down a strip of metal down under the plastic like 1/8 - 1/4" thick and then mount the lights through there. you just have to carve out some of the foam.

The answer is yes, it can be done. BTW, you got lots of great ideas on this thread to help.

thats how i mounted mine. I guess those were the factory fog light mounts..i had to cut them up a little to fit them suckers on there but they are stable as a rock..the brackets that they bolt to are tied into the header panel....so the only way them lights are commin off it to be unbolted or for the header panel to get ripped up.
