Can't take front brake rotors off, need help!

Hi,

Yesterday I bought all my rotors and tried to change them, the rear ones came out really easy after removing the calipers, but I couldn't take the two fronts off, is that tricky or something?

in the FSM, it's indicated that I should take the retainers off to be able to take the rotors off, but there is no retainers there!

any advise in form of pictures, last experiences etc. is really appreciated.

I did my 2002 WJ brakes, once you have the whole caliper off, bracket and all, they were still stuck, I took an Air hammer and hammered on the center of the brake to break up the rust, then a sledge on the back of the rotor all the way around, then I took a crow bar and wedged it on one of the caliper mounts on the knuckle and pryed the rotor off, it wasn't too hard.

The Orvis has been neglected and needs help. Back on here after a long time. Time to research some help haha

Put the lug nuts on the studs to protect the threads, then hit all around the rotor hat to break the rust free.
Any type of excessive heat, sledge hammer tatics may have an adverse affect on the hub.

i just did mine a week ago. i had to beat the **** out of them with a sledge hammer.

I used the "sledge hammer tactics" seemed to work fine. How else do you expect to get it off without a hammer? I used a rubber mallet as well but it didn't do anything.

Just use a BFH and you will be fine.

Ah, how beautifully the orchestra sounds before a rain! In a dry sunny day there is no way for the instruments to sound this way!

I believe you'll find that there is a difference between a sledge hammer and a regular hammer. At least in my part of the world.

I used a rubber mallet and a sledge hammer. The thing however that worked the best was the crowbar. I just kept working my way up to more leverage. Constant leverage is the best rather than smacking something, but I didn't notice that nice little mount that I could pry off of! The sledge was just part of my trial and error, but I thought it must have done something because I couldn't move it with just the crow bar when I went over to do the other side.

Thanks for all the recommendations, I did it with a sledge hammer, but before that I put some freeze-off and then some penetrating lube spray before opening the caliper and by the time I used hammer, Bingo!
