Can't seem to get my steering stabilizer off

Hey guys,

I just bought a ew OME steering stabilizer to put on my 97 GC Laredo 4.0. I cant get the old one off due to one of the bolts being stuck. Any help with this problem would be great. this 15min job has turned in to a 2 hour fiasco. I dont know if it is just kept on by the nut or if its screwed on. Its attached to the steering brace, on the bottom. thanks

Ray

Did you try hitting it with some penetrating oil? Soak it with something like PB blaster and then try again.

Soak it with penetrating oil (WD-40 or similar).
Or heat it up with a torch (but not right after applying the penn oil).
Use a bigger wrench.

I had to grind off the nut and push the bolt out of the hole with a 2-jaw puller rented from AutoZone.

Dont know if it is the same but the nut on the WJ SS is spot welded on so you only turn the bolt. You can put a wrench on it but all you will get is a workout and a headache.

I couldn't get mine out. Heat, PB blaster, BFH, pullers, etc. It would not budge. I just left the stud in there.

Want to swap an NP242 or NP231 into your ZJ? Here's how:

Garage
Pitman arm puller. It was the only thing that worked on my old ZJ SS. They are like $15 at Harbor Freight.

2 jaw puller . . . put pressure on the bolt, then hit the drag link with a small sledge next to where the bolt is. It should pop right out.
