can i do a quick fix or do i need a new front shaft?

its a 1997 v8 249 t/c orvis model and today i did some wheeling today and just at the crest of a hill i heard a pop then my rear tires dug down

so i did some thing to the front shaft , it moves around this area in a circle could reconnect it or do i need to replace

i will check this often as its my daily driver and im not a 4/awd pro.

Its FUBAR, might as well swap in a U-joint shaft while you have the chance.

is everything inside still ok? or did something brake sometimes they snap out of place but can be put back together fairly easy, there should be a gear and a roller ball for each hole inside the metal case

is the cv joint making a clicking sound yet? bc once it starts clicking, it's done. if it hasn't started clicking yet, then you can just rewrap the boot. that's what i did with one of my cv axles. if it is clicking, get yourself this thing like i did:

i know you are just using it as a dd, but if you ever lift it, that front driveshaft WILL break before you leave the parking lot. mine did.

also, got mine for free at a junkyard. imo, junkyards are best places to get parts for zj. going back tomorrow to pull a rear driveshaft.
