a/c still not so cool
well, not that its not so cool but that it does not blow so hard. it takes a long time to cool the jeep down because the blower just doesn't move much air even though the air is ice cold from the vents. high on this thing has the fan howling like a monster so that you can't talk at normal voice but the actual amount of air is not so much. is this that blend door thing people are always talking about? i searched and it doesn't sound like it but not having ever had an issue like this requires me to ask more experienced persons about this

The blend door problem is only on dual zone ac, and affects the temperature between driver and passenger sides. If the fan is that loud on high without moving that much air, I would suspect some sort of blockage or perhaps the blower motor is on its way out. Do you have this problem on all settings? Recirc, vent, floor, defrost? That information should at least help someone who knows more than I do figure this out.

Fault codes?
Have you checked the ATC fault codes yet? Could you tell us what they are, if any?

you have a 93....its probably time to replace the Orifice tube on the passenger side and the drier as well if its not yet been done...mine was at the right pressure and everything was new on it as far as the AC except for that line...replaced it and no more problems..

i was wondering if some door isn't opening and thats why i had the problem. i tried to sheck out little details while cruising around today and i have some more information to add.
the two center vents over the hvac panel blow like crazy but the rest of the vents hardly blow anything. when you set the ac to blow on feet and body, feet doesn't do anything. so, this leads me to believe that something isn't opening like its supposed to be. i don't know how to check codes because i haven't searched for it so i can't say if there are any or not.

Assuming your ZJ has the ATC display, here's what you should do/observe. Extracts from the Haines manual follow. "If there is trouble in the ATC/AZC system, an "ER" message will display on the indicator once during the ignition cycle. (Particularly after you disconnect and reconnect the vehicle battery.). To access the fault codes, depress the AC and RECIRC buttons at the same time and hold them in while you rotate the temperature knob one (1) click clockwise. Now push either the AC or RECIRC buttons and the "stickman" figure will appear, indicating the fault code mode. Keep pushing the button. Fault codes from 1 to 64 will appear if there are fault codes in memory."

Check to see if most of your air is going to defrost. My 93 was doing the same thing and I found a bad actuator for the Panel door.
The actuator is located just above the tranny hump on the drivers side under the dash. Actually there are 2 there, look for the one with the green tube going to it. If you look up in there you'll see where it attaches to the panel door lever. Try gently pulling the lever down with the control set to vent. If that opens the door fully and gives you good flow then you need to determine if it's an issue with not enough vacuum to the actuator, or the actuator itself. |
