A/C.....How to get rid of it?

My a/c has been dead for years now and I drive with the windows down anyway. If I took a/c system out, would that help with mpg? What would I need to take the compressor out? (shorter belt?...what size). If anyone knows of a thread about this, could you please add the link. Thanks.
