Buying Advice. Need opinions.

I'm just about to purchase a 1996 Grand Cherokee Limited. It has just turned 100,000 miles and the price is pretty much too good to pass up. It has the V8 engine in it. I've been driving it the past two days and it runs strong. The only minor problems it has (besides some cosmetic blemishes) is that the front passenger door doesn;t unlock with the power lock button. A/C works as well. Are there any major financial repairs I am looking at in the near future? Opinions?

Thanks in advance!!

If the engine has been maintained well, it should last for another 100,000 miles or so. The Air conditioner compressor may start leaking if it has not been replaced. Mine went out after 7 years. You should expect a few parts will wear out and need replacing but it should not be major (like the engine or tranny). I always recommend taking the jeep to a mechanic that you trust and have him/her look it over to make sure everything is OK.

Good Luck and happy jeepin'

i have a 96 GC limited now with a little over 76000 miles. it does have the 6 cylinder i would rather have the V8 so consider yourself lucky. the quadratrac works fine for me. performs well both on and off road. the biggest repair i've had on mine has been a new evaporator for the A/C. woulda been quite pricey to replace but luckly it was under warrantee. i would definitly take it to a mechanic before buying but if everything checks out and the price is right i think you've found yourself a great vehicle.

Thanks for the replies. Talked to my friend who owns the shop and he said they went all through the engine and there wasn't a drop of oil or any leaks. My previous Jeep, god rest her soul, was an '89 Cherokee. The tranny went last week at 257,600 miles. I found out to replace it would be a minimum $2k so that ends that. Seeing how many miles I got out of the last one, I'm not afraid of a Jeep with a little mileage on it. Camster, the A/C works for now but I have heard about the evaporator. Any idea what that runs? Thanks again guys.
