Hey, I heard a big clonk the other day while driving my Jeep (1997 GC limited) so I stopped, looked under it and found a big crack on the LCA mount (driver side. Took it to the garage and the repair estimate was up to 2800$ (canadian $) to fix it, he said that he needed to replace the whole axle with a used one cause the one on it is too rusty. I just need some advice on what to do here, I love my jeep and do not want to scrap it. Thanks

From what i've read on this forum I could just get some new brackets grind the old ones away and weld the new ones, not sure

another question; now the LCA is completely out of the bracket, so what would be the safest way to take it to another mechanic, towing or driving it ?

Haha! Sounds like your local garage is quite knowledgeable, they obviously haven't seen some of the rigs around here!

I bet it is too rusty, Ontario roads turn into salt mines every time a snowflake hits the ground. Just find a used axle in craigslist, cut the mount off and see if someone will weld it, if not then just swap the axle

There are a number of vendors that sell heavy duty control arm mounts.
It's up to you if you can find another axle. If not, just buy the mounts and find someone to weld them on.
I would not drive it the way it is though. You are just asking for trouble.

Here is what you need, then get ahold of a local welding shop, they will make quick work of it and not gouge you like most mechanics. Show them in person, and make an offer on what you can pay, see where that gets you.
