broken headlight adjusters

Does anybody know if/how I can replace these? Is it part of the grill support? Mine were old and brittle, now they are broken and brittle and the cardboard insert holding the lights up is real attractive.

no, no the hex adjuster screws that are right below the hood. The screws that allow adjustment on the headlights. It broke all apart and now my headlights point down without a little help.

Hate to bring this thread back up, but I need the plastic pieces that hold the adjusting screws in place. I was replacing my headlight assemblies tonight and broke the inner one on each side.

go to any hardware store and buy some 1/4" threaded rods and make some new mounts. i did it before i sold my zj and never had to worry about them flimsy ball joints any more and to adjust them simply adjust the nuts.

you will be needing to buy a new header panel and adjusters theres no way to get the gears out without distroying your stock header panel.

Sounds about right. I bought the parts and attempted the job twice. Both times I said fork it, it ain't worth the grief. One thing, if they have never been adjusted, they are probably ok. If you spray liberal amounts of PB Blaster down the holes before trying to adjust them, let it soak for a day, and do it on a warm day, you'll be ok.

Here's the lowdown on the ZJ clips

or all you gotta do is take threaded rods and 4 nuts for each one. one nut on the inside of the rod, then the headlight tab, another nut on that side to tighten the rod to the headlight, then drill a hole in the header panel and put a nut on the rod that will butt against the header panel to keep the rod from going back in the grille, then a nut on the inside of the header panel to secure it.

for adjustment:

to adjust rod inward:

1. loosen nut on engine side of header panel.
2. turn nut on headlight side of header panel towards headlight.
3. retighten nut on header panel to secure.

to adjust rod outward.

1. loosen nut on engine side of header panel.
2. turn nut on headlight side of header panel towards header panel.
3. retighten nut on header panel to secure.

if you do this on all 3 mounts you will not have to replace the header panel or adjustment screws and as a plus your headlights will now be BOLTED to your zj instead of "popped" on. you may spend $20 tops on threaded rods nuts and washers. (6 rods 1/4" dia 8" long, 24 nuts, maybe 24 small washers) and your headlights will be securely mounted. i did this on my zj before i sold it and never had a problem.

YOU WILL HAVE TO DRILL THE HEADER PANEL AND TAKE OFF THE PLASTIC CLIPS ON THE HEADLIGHTS BUT ITS WORTH THE EFFORT AND SAVED MONEY. JOB SHOULD TAKE NO MORE THAN AN HOUR TO DO BOTH LIGHTS.

i ran a 3" dry wall screw in one of mine, and it worked great. all i had to do was use a Phillips head screw driver to adjust them. and it didn't cost me a dime
