Breathe New Life into I6

I have a 99 4x4 with an I6. I have regretted not buying the V8 although the I6 at least has a solid reputation for reliability. The I6 and WJ design don't seem to be the greatest match up which is something I only realized after driving my father's 04 with the V8 and later his 05 WK with the Hemi.

Now that the vehicle is paid off I have a few dollars for performance upgrades.

What is the best bang for the buck purchase(s) I can make to pep up a 6-yr old I6? I appreciate any input.

Everyone is going to say talk to Nick (Kolak@aol.com) and talk to him.

Short list:
FIPK, headers (sketchy, read current thread on Header Schmeders), high flow cat and muffler (Borla for cat-back).

JET chip.

Don't buy the tornado or any cheap mod chip.

Gear your Jeep higher(lower?) for a better overall ratio...

Get a Stoker kit and make the lovely 4.0 a bigger engine (4.9L = ~330HP)

Hey man,

You might also wanna check out the "Speed Freaks" section over at Jeepsunlimited. Though predominantly 5.9 owners, they'll surely help a brother Jeeper out.

I would reccomend gearing. I will assume you have a 3.55 rear end, so upgrading to 3.73 or 4.10 would do you great. Also, cat-back and an FIPK system for air induction will give ya around 10 HP for <500 bucks.

Not cool

J/K Don't be tricked into going for a V8. The I-6 is a great engine that will outlast the V8 easily.

yea stroke that out to a 4.6 is a safe reliable build for that motor. do a search on google for more info regarding this. couple guys actually pieced there kit together using a lot of stock parts and worked out great. put you over 300 lb of torque which is v8 territory
