Brake lights won't shut off

So I did a little wheelin the other day that involved me dunking the WJ's tail pretty deep under water anyway on the drive home my buddy was behind me so he called me to ask if I was riding my brakes I told him no so he continued to tell me all three brake lights had been on for about a mile.

I got home and checked it out. when my headlights are off the brake lights work as they should but when i turn my headlights on all three lights go on as well anybody know whats going on?

Had the same exact problem, it wound up being my trailer hitch plug getting caked with mud.

When headlights are off, the taillights work perfectly, with lights on, all three come on.

If you have a factory, or some sort of hitch, disconnect the plug from the main loom and see if it helps. If it does, then clean out the plug, if not, look elsewhere.

When my wife and I pull in to the driveway the other WJ (we have 2) will sometimes be doing something interesting with the lights. sometimes the brake lights will be on sometimes it is something else. We have learned to adjust and not worry about it. since buying the WJ's in 01 we have only replace lights one time for each bulb and never drained a battery from it. The brake lights in mine go off after taping the brake once and then they go off.

We have also determined the blue WJ to be haunted.... their here....

So I literally just came in from putting in my new brake switch and the problem lives on...

when I turn on the parking/headlights all three brake lights come on. when I shut the lights off and hit the brake pedal none of the brake lights come on.

so we know
1) the bulbs are good
2) its not the brake switch
3) the trailer hitch plug is clean

any ideas what else to do before I just turn her in to the shop?

Did you go deep enough to dunk the tail lights under water?
