Brake light wont work.

my JGc brake light wont work. The right one will brake and turn on and the left one will turn on when i put parking light on but wont brake. I have checked the fuse and seems fine. i dont know why the right one is perfect and left isn't. I even changed the light bulb on left and still will turn on with parking lights on but wont brake. Thanks guys

A common problem on the WJ's is that the little gold plated connectors on the housing that the bulb it self sits into snap off. So there would be no continuity going to the light bulb. Screw the light bulbs, get new lights. I got a really nice pair off of ebay for $30.00 shipped to the door, and yes, they were factory!

Worked like a charm afterwards...
good luck!

Just check the connections in the housing. The lights heat up and makes the ground recede into the plastic. Just pry up on the contacts in the housing a little and that should fix your problem right up. Very common actually.

Common enough that you'll have to do this again in about 45 days. A few times after you get the hang of how to fix it, it will break because the metal clips are made of junk metal and corrode and the plastic part that it screws into will break because none of this stuff was meant to be taken apart every 45 days.

Soon after it breaks, you'll look on e-bay for a set of smoked lens replacement lights for about $85 that work really well ...but look a little boy-racer-ish.

Ask me how I know.

lol...

Oh...and at some point your wife will probably back the jeep into a friends Mercedes and bust the lens of the aftermarket housing....at which point you'll need to spend another $85 or so for a new pair because they don't sell anything but pairs. (Dirver's side aftermarket tail light for sale. Smoked lens. Make offer.)

...You'll then suffer from a deep depression after you find that you actually like those boy-racer-ish tail lights and by that time, you wont be able to find anything else but regular standard tail lights..... You'll than give in and buy a standard tail light on ebay, and find yourself driving around with one Smoked-boy-racer-ish tail light and one standard...

Soon after, you'll get pulled over for an equipment violation. You'll become disgruntled and you will take the ticket that the cop with the stupid smerk on his face gave you, and you'll crumple it up and throw it back at him... He'll arrest you for harassment and you will be sitting next to bubba in a 3 x 3 cell for the next month waiting for your court appearance. THEN, when your court appearence comes, the judge will be a die-hard Jeep fanatic and a memeber on these boards... He'll see all this crap about your tail light, and he'll tell you to have a nice day....

or you can go to am-autoparts.com, order a new tail light housing (which commonly fail from heat and bad design), and resume normal activity

Yeah I actually like them now. Didn't take long for them to grow on me.
