Bonnet / Hood wrap on GC 98 ORVIS ??

Hi Guys

Just a bit of advice / views needed

My GC 1998 Orvis bonnet / Hood paintwork is pretty faded and Dull I have tried polishing it and using T Cut but nothing has really worked

I have been looking into if putting a Carbon fibre / matt colour wrap on the bonnet / Hood to avoid the cost of a re-spray ?

Do you think that is a good idea or will it look a little odd just wrapping one panel

Also I am looking at changing the front grille from the standard all back one that I have to a more modern looking Chrome Grille

Thanks

Mark

as a detailer, i'd say post the pic of the hood. if its just dull and you polished it, you did it wrong.
so there could be 2 answers:
1. you polished wrong
2. its not just faded and dull as you described but its much more

as for the wrapping, imho, carbon fiber would look silly on a jeep... not only cause its fake, but hell...even worse if it was real! why saving 1kg on a carbon fiber hood on a 2tons SUV? but everyone has his taste.

Thanks that was my worry that it would look a little stupid

I will try and upload a pic to try and explain what I mean

It is also quite likely that when I polished it I could of done it wrong , I will speak with a Car accessory shop that sells the products to see if they can give me some pointers

The main paintwork issue is to the left of the picture

In the sunlight you can see what used to be some type of advertising sticker which used to be stuck on , I think the previous owner scrubbed it off adding to the paintwork issue

The other side of the bonnet buffs up quite well the other just stays a little dull / faded

from this picture, it really seems way beyond repair for when it comes to polishing. but it's very hard to tell. i suggest you take it to a detailing shop. let them measure if there is any clearcoat left on that left side on the pic and then they are gonna be able to tell you if it can be wet sanded and polished, or if there is no clearcoat left. means the paint itself is not protected and UV light screwed it up. in that case: sanding the paint down, repaint and add clear of course.

in both cases, its not very expensive. i dont know how detail shops or paint shops form prices at your place, but covering the entire hood in fake carbon fiber could cost even more than polishing or even repainting the whole hood. if it can be polished, it can be done in about 30mins. but it really looks like you have no clearcoat left on that pic.

Reverse... put in the chrome grill and then sell the niner grill and make some money. The niner grills are in very high demand and you'll make some good money.

Thanks for the advice I will try and track down a local paintwork shop , it is a shame as the rest of the body work for the age is great and shines up really well !!!

I am such a jeep rookie never even realised that the grille was any good !!!!

no, not the paintshop. they will certanly tell you a respray is needed only to squeeze a few more bucks out of you.

first see a detailer cause a polishing could save the day and be a bit cheaper. not to mention it will require 30mins instead of a 2 day paint process.

Thanks for the tip the difference in quoted prices between detailers and paint shops is $$$

hopefully it does not need a full re-spray and a good polish by a professional company should do the trick
