Blower Motor
Hi guys,
I was searching on the forums about blower motor problems. What mine is doing is this... not working. But it started a couple days ago. It was a hot day so I had the AC on high and the blower on high. After about 20 mins the fan stopped and started a couple times by it self. Then #4 didn't work but the rest did. The next day 2 and 3 didn't work but 4 did.. Then the next day none work. The fan just will not turn on. I checked all the fuses and they seem fine. When I was reading the forums ppl were saying that it was the blower motor resistor switch. But ppl were saying that only a couple settings didn't work. Is it possible that it has totally packed it in? Here is a pic of mine: ![]() Is it easy to test if this is faulty? TIA, DD

passable motor itself see if u are loosing power at the resistor or loosing ground when it does it.

ok , i got the same problem as you few weeks ago. The problem was my vent control button (vaccum button) with the off position. When i removed the dash last times, i removed those control and i lost some springs. When i tried to put the heater or Ac , the blower was not runing all the time. Then, i removed the control another time, and replace the springs and retry to put it on..... It was better but it was not working properly.. Finally i removed the control another time and found that there is place for the copper plate to go.
Finally, when your fan is to the on position, the button push a copper plate to make a contact inside this button and make the blower running. When there is not enough pressure on this plate (springs) the blower will not run all the time because there will be a bad contact. then your spring may have fallen inside this button. There it will be an intermitent problem. Try to move the button up, down, left and right. If one spring has fallen, you'll be able to make the contact manually... That happend to my 02 JGC with the manual heating system. But.... there is also a possibility that your blower should be bad.... But i don't think that your resistor pack is faulty because when the blower is to the maximum speed, the contact is direct and the current doesn't go trough the resistor. Good luck and let me know ! Well it dosen't work at all now. None of the settings work.
So I have the resistor out but I don't know how to test it. Can a resistor be faulty on a couple settings and then totally quit? Thanks everyone for your replys. DD |

Even with the resistor out and not connected you should be able to get the high setting to work. As high bypasses it alltogether. (manual control not digital)
If not you have other problems..

Ok.. I just went and tested it. With the resistor out.. the fun does nothing on high (Manual controls).
Other things it could be: Fuses - They all looked good. But I can't tell if the Fan Relays are dead. They are large and black. How do I test them? If it is not the fuses or relays.. I can check the wiring.. if not its the blower motor itself. How does this all sound? DD |

Well I figured it out! Guess what it was.......
..... The HVAC control panel. I checked EVERYTHING. I checked fuses, Relays, Resistor, You name it. Finally I was at a wreckers and I took the HVAC control panel out and put it into my jeep and sure enough.. fixed. So $65 CAN I'm blowing air again. I wished it was just a fuse.. but guess not. So if anyone is having the same prob and cant find whats wrong it was this: ![]() One thing I love about jeeps so far is they are EASY to work on. The dash comes apart easy, Everything did on the dash. Much easier then some of my previous cars. Thanks everyone for the help. DD |
