Blinking instrument lights whith auto headlights on.
When my headlights are set in auto, and the tranny in D, the instrument lights blink away like crazy. In reverse the instrument lights go off.
Now with the switch in regular headlights on it works fine.
I do not want to just order a headlight switch, as it feels it can be some other grounding issue or so.
I have checked for loose grounds and also changed the brake light switch which was sticking in the on position.
Any ideas..??
Thks

Bump for ideas..
Spent the afternoon checking, cleaned bat terminals, etc.
They blink only on the auto headlight mode, and either when using the brakes or turn signal.
Any ideas on what to check will be appreciated.

It's very very very very common issue on ZJs. You need to replace that auto lights module

Uh..! So it actually has been traced to the Auto headlight module..?
I was not sure since it does it in some gears and not others, and only in auto, not in regular headlights..
Well. I guess it will be trying to get one and hope for the best.
I hear they are not particularly easy on the wallet at the stealership..

forget the dealership, bone yard is your friend here. Auto and regular headlight controls are all in one module
Mine does the same think for a loooong time now. I fixed it very cheaply - I don't use auto

Yeah.. I'm a big ebay fan, buying and selling a bit too.
Same screen name.
I will try the "recycling centers around here, since I am still trying to score a cheap stock sway bar for the time being before I can buy the addco.
This toys do get expensive..lol
And my other hobbye doesn't help either, cuz radio stuff is also on the pricey side.
Thks for the insight.

I know...
I have put twice as much in the XJ than what I paid for it, and I pieced almost the entire lift from parts on Ebay.. It was like christmas every time a box would arrive.
But it made my father happy, and it was his long time dream to have a lifted Jeep.
The ZJ is in great shape, and I might live with the blinking lights for a while... For now, keep on looking.
I got the face for the radio today, and an antenna rotator for my new VHF / and UHF yagis, so ebay was good today.
Thks and 73.
