Big Time fuel pressure relief when I open gas cap

94 JGC Laraedo 5.2 quadratrac
190,000 miles

So, this is pretty similar to when you run your tank close to empty open the gas cap and you hear the fumes make a vaccume or hissing sound.

Mine is doing it even when there is a half tank of gas... and its crazy pressure, it litterally relieves itself for almost 10 seconds.

does anyone know what is causing this? Never experienced this on any of my 20 vehicles.

only thing I can possibly think of is a clogged injector or fuel filter causing the pressure build up?

What about your EVAP canister or lines?

clogged evap line. the fuel pump can suck the tank hard enough to collapse it if it's not vented through the evap system correctly.

is the pressure build up in the gas tank usually always the Evap canister??? what about the purge solenoid??

mine seems to only build up the pressure when I get below 1/4 tank. Would this problem throw a code??

thanks
Tim

I had it happen on my 94. So much pressure gas would be ejected (onto me ) when I removed the cap. I got a vented cap and that problem hasn't reoccurred in the last two years. I'm sure my evap system is trashed.
