Battery Dead

I have a 5 year old Die Hard in my ZJ. Yesterday up on the mountain it started dying.
This morning in the garage it is dead.
When last started, the engine kept wanting to die if I let the rpms go down to idle.

The voltmeter reading was at 14 volts. Is it the battery, the Alternator. or...?

The numbers on the Alternator are as follows:

5602 7912

121000-3530 12V

DENSO 70113

There is a circle with the number 62 inside in ink/paint on the case.

I don't know the amperage rating, so I don't actually know if the Alternator is enough for what I am asking from it.

I run 2 Amplifiers and trailer lights. and I run all my lights when driving on the street.

Thanks,
TK

Batteries are not designed to last that long.

Thanks for the reply.

Battery has only 10 Volts across the terminals. I realize that it is dead but I was wondering if there was/is a problem with my charging system.
I don't want to kill another battery.
Thanks,
TK

like stated, wet batteries aren't meant to last that long.

There is a code on all batteries that tells you when they where made. It is usually located in one of the corners (on the top but also the sides). Only the first two characters are important. 9A would indicate a battery built in 1999 January. 9M = 1999 December.

If you get a new battery, take the old one back to Sears and get a new one there.

I recently traded in my one month shy of five year old Die Hard Gold battery and they gave me $39.66 for it. That's over half of the original purchase price ($75) and about 40% of the cost of a new one ($95). I practically ran out of the store with the new battery just in case they made a mistake. So those 100 month guarntees are good for something after all!

If one has a five year old battery in there vehicle then it needs to be replaced; even if it is not the cause of a current problem.

I call it preventative maintenance.
