Bad squeaking from the front end when ZJ is cold. Any thoughts?
I've noticed a bunch of extra noise out of the front of my ZJ when it's been cold the past couple of weeks. It's especially apparent when the temperature is around freezing or has been. I checked my tranny and transfer case fluids, and all is well, except for a slight leak between the two. The noise seems to be coming from the front end. What could be going bad/is wrong?

Hello, im not sure if this will solve your problem, but sometimes when i start up my zj there is a loud and annoying speak that comes fron the front end(engine). I found it was because i got mud in my distributor cap, so i just squirt some wd40 in there and it goes away. I have to do this occasionally, maybe thats a clue?? anyway hope this helps in any way

Could it be wheel bearings or something along that line?

Definitely not the belt, that only squeaks when the defroster is on.

can you try and isolate which part of the engine the noise is coming from. It may be bearings or something along that lines.

It really doesn't sound like the engine. The noise is dependent on speed, not on RPM. Sounds mostly like it's coming from the front axle.

we might have the same problem...
Does it almost sound like an uneven squeak? like a dj swivelling a record or something? The sounds like it is coming from the interior of the car, up on the dashboard.. it sounds like it comes out of the AC.
it only does it when i accelerate.

Any resolution to this? My TJ has a sqeak from the front end of the jeep on cold mornings, sounds like it's coming from the front right axle. It's rotational, so the faster I go, the faster it squeaks. The sound resembles a belt squeak, but I'm almost certain it's not a belt, since the squeak is related to spead, and not RPM. It usually goes away after about 2-3 minutes and there's no more ill effects after that.

Check, lube, or replace your sway bar bushings.

I agree with the lubing of the swaybar bushings.
