Bad day at the junkyard

I brought my best friend Cooper
with me to the junkyard to pull these out of a 98 Limited.http://i912.photobucket.com/albums/ac324/tjf959/DSCN5866.jpg[/IMG]

I had the JY owners permission to bring the dog with me and have him off leash.

I was just finishing the job when a white Caravan came racing up and skidded to a halt . A man jumped out of the truck and fired a shot from a pistol and yelled "GIT".

It seems that he saw my dog from the elevated seat of the loader he was operating and felt compelled to race up the hill and kill my boy Cooper.

Well, the dumb son of a ***** missed my dog. I jumped up from the side of the Limited and yelled "Please don't shoot my dog!" I surprised the dirt bag. He yelled back that he didn't know I was there, jumped back in the van and sped away.
I called the dog and checked him over for injuries, he was ok, just scared. After putting the dog in my jeep and picking up my tools I looked around the area where the shot was fired and found a 9mm casing.
I am glad that the dirt bag didn't kill or wound my dog for the obvious reasons, another reason is that I am licensed to carry concealed in Wisconsin and was exercising my rights when the man shot at my dog. I won't speculate on what might have been, but I love that dog more than 99.9% of the humans that I have met.

Bottom line is that the dog is healthy, my new seats are beautiful, and I am not in trouble.

I still haven't decided how to deal with the dog assassin.

Wow, real sorry to hear about the close call GW and glad your dog is OK!

Evidently the guy works there and believe I'd talk to the jy owner and see what he has to say? Sounds like the dumb-a** needs to lose his job and not only could he have killed your dog but you or anybody else in the jy.

The owner of the JY is a good man by all accounts. I am going to call him Monday morning and give him the facts as I witnessed them. We see how it goes from there.

Not to defend his actions, but maybe the equipment operator was trying to scare the dog because he thought it had strayed into the yard. That would explain him not knowing you were there, the bad aim, and the accompanying "git" command. Some people think it's okay to pop off a round with injudicious intent. In my book, you shoot to practice and to kill.

I appreciate the logic, and have taken that possibility into account. It is the main reason that I didn't take immediate action in the matter. It is just different when it's your own beloved pet in danger, and especially so when the dog had permission to be where he was.

As I said above I will talk to the owner Monday morning and take it from there.

Who, in there right mind would shoot at this guy anyway?

BW, really? You're going to throw a punch at a guy with a gun?

GW, good approach, calm and talk. There's probably stuff going on you are unaware of. Doesn't make it right though.

Somebody said this, "Violence is the last refuge of the incompetent". I read it in one of Robert A. Heinlein's books I suspect.

So, GW, what did the jy owner said 'bout the accident?

Btw, was Cooper wearing his leash & tag? I ask because that random guy could have tough Cooper is a street dog if he didn't have a leash on. Still it doesn't make him be right for actions, but that could at least be a possibility.

He had the collar on that is in the above picture with up to date license, rabies tag, and ID tag. This JY is in farm country, so there are no "street dogs". The owner was out of town today so I will try again tomorrow.

I never said it was a smart approach.

Better to throw a gun at a guy with a punch. Unload it first, though.
