Bad alternator? or excite wire?

Driving down the road and notice my battery amps dropping. Running fine but continue dropping til in the red zone and "check battery" comes on. It would still start but wouldn't charge up out of the red. Then after a little surfing I read about "exciting "it by revving to 4000. Worked like a charm. But does it mean the alternator is going bad? the excitation wire bad? The alternator was replaced less than a year ago.

I would suspect the battery and cables since the alternator is relatively new. Drop by an auto parts store and get them to load check the battery.

Just went through this myself.
Alternator. Get it checked.
BTW, it's a voltmeter on the dash, not an ammeter.
Could be connections, too...but my guess is the alternator.
