Since we don't have passenger side airbags you can pretty easily unbolt that side of the dash (screws along the bottom and the top (you have to take the dash pad off though)...I don't remember if there are any along the sides though (might be).

Let me know if you need me to take a picture of the module for you. It won't be until tomorrow (Wednesday) nightbefore I can tthough. If you can't find any modules I might be able to dig some up from the local junkyards when I get home next week. There are quite a few with auto headlights in them.

Yes, please take pic's! I too have the same issue on my 97'. I have the switch in, and everything works except the auto lights.
So pic's are greatly appreciated it!
Does anyone know if a 97' Laredo 4.0, I6 has the sensor already installed? If it doesn't, where can get one and how does one install it?

If you see the post by KoreaZJ above you can see the module I was going to take a pic of (they beat me to it). I'm not sure if it's the same for 96-98 ZJs though. The sensor in the defroster grille is different if I'm not mistaken.

1996 and up is missing a light blue wire with a red tracer going from the headlight harness to the bcm. Pin 13 on the headlight harness. Also the sensor is located in the middle of the dash with a green connector under the dash pad.

So most likely I am missing the wire that goes from the headlight harness to the BCM - what does BCM mean( I am not good with acronyms)

I have a red bulb sitting in the middle of the dash up by the window that blinks when the doors are locked - that is not the sensor for the lights right? that's simply a red blinking light for the doors.

How does one add the wire to make the auto lights work? I am pretty mechanically inclined, and if the dash needs to come apart, no big deal, had it fully apart many times.

The red blinking light is most likely a factory alarm. BCM = body control module that 1 wire controls the auto headlights there is a topic called finish auto headlights that explains it I'll try to link it.

Really easy to add the wire you can remove wires from the harness very easy by sticking a small standard screwdriver in the end separating the lock and pull the wire out I've done It million times

As I am reading and learning more about it. It seems the only thing I need to do is add that small blue wire from the auto light switch in pin 13 to the BCM and then simply add the relay.

Where do you find this wire at? Pull one at a junk yard? Or order it from Jeep?

Pull it from the junk yard they might just give it away, afaik there is no relay only relay is for fogs. I would suggest you take your headlight switch out and find what wire is missing then you know what to look for when you're there. The bcm is near the drivers left knee I believe.
