ARB safari snorkel INSTALLED!!! 2/9/08

Ok guys, so here is what you have been waiting for.. (me as well)

I got the chance over the weekend to get some jeep related stuff taken care of. I managed to get the snorkel on.

It took us the better part of 3 1/2 hours split up between friday night and saturday morning. I have to say, i was skeptical about the fit of the kit, just because most aftermarket parts tend to always run into a bump in the middle of the install. This kit was not like that. I literally followed the instructions step by step, did what it said, and it went in with absolutely NO problems or headaches. I mean it is a phenomenal fit and it went in smoother then any other install in recent memory.

All the parts were included in the kit to do the job, minus a (4 3/4" holesaw, silicon adhesive to seal the kit, and a pop rivet gun) just to let you know, i found automotive RV silicone in black for about 5 bux, got a 5" holesaw for 6 dollars at harbor freight (it worked perfect) and i also got a crap pop rivet gun for 6 dollars. Otherwise you just need some basic stuff, wrenches, screwdrivers, and some way to cut (jigsaw, drill, airsaws, cut off wheels, dremels, etc)

I am going to write up a full detailed article with pics before, during and after install. I will be getting around to actually "fording" something asap.

here is some previewsthe pics aren't too great, it was a bit too dark in the shop during the photo session)

if you have any questions, anything you'd like answered in the article, or comments, let me know. I will be writing up the article in the next few days, getting some better "day" pics and if you'd like pics of any certain part of the kit, let me know.

agreed, it fits the panel contours like a glove, it almost looks as though jeep planned people having snorkels due to the plastic panel that popped out to give me access to the fender and to run the pipe through to the airbox

no sir, in all actuality, it feels like i may have better throttle response from it. (not sure how tho)

if you've ever had a cold air intake on a car, you know the sucking noise it makes.. well the snorkel is the same way, it sounds like that. Its actually pretty loud when you get on it.

I drove 150 miles after the install and noticed that i had gained about 1mpg over what i normally get, and that was headed against the wind. I will be checking this out over the next couple of weeks to see if there is a trend.

as soon as i get someone with a good enough rig to get me unstuck from the center of a pond, we will see what happens ;-)

no, actually if anyone knows of a spot in MD where i can legally do a worthwhile river crossing that may come up to hood deep, lemme know.

I know that it works, i am able to put my hand over the top of the riser tube and cause the car to stall out from no air... i just have to seal my distributor cap, extend my breather lines and i will be ready to rock.

I still wouldn't want to test it, its more of a emergency engine saver, you will still more than likely F up your electronics

You can come to Rausch Creek in PA and try out the frog hole, we'll pull ya out

well nick, i wasnt planning on running thru water up to the top of the tube or anything, just something maybe top of grille deep.. but once again, it is more of a "in case" then "on purpose" piece of equipment....

as for a wheeling trip, i havent been in a long time. I would love to come up there and break our jeeps together! lol
