Ummmmm, are you a Mechanic, do you have all the tools for this. It is quite involved

Get yourself a manual for starters. It's not an extremely difficult job, but you really need to know what you're doing and what tools you'll need before you consider it.

I've find this but I'm not sure that the Grand cherokee's be as straight forward as this:

http://tija.org/writeups/PinionReplacement.html

any comments over that?

and even this one has better pictuers:

I appreciate any comments that help

Didn't read the second, but I believe the first didn't mention to apply lube to the seal lip before installation. Just be careful when tightening the nut back down. Do not overtorque or you'll be doing a bearing replacement in the future.

I have been trying to figure out the same thing. I got a new front DS waiting to put on and IDK how to replace the seals yet. The Haynes manual doesnt mention a thing about it...

I think this guide here is easier to understand compared to that b&w guide that was posted.

You will need a slide hammer with a seal puller or a leverage style seal puller.

Like said before when you tighten the pinion nut down be careful!! Over tightening this will burn out the differential. I believe the torque for the nut is specd at 175-250ft-lbs. so if your torque wrench doesn't read that high, then note the number of thread the pinion nut sits down on. Then lock-tite the nut back down to where the threads previously rested.

I plan to do that tomorrow, and actually my torque meter will not read more than 150, so I plan to borrow or count the number of threads, as you said.
