Another Mystery Part

I was hoping my first post would have a more exciting title. I was putting in a new distributor cap on my XJ v8 (using the driver's side) and feeling relieved that the job was so simple after reading post of other's problems, when I hear the soft sound of plastic falling through the engine bay and hitting the floor.
This is what I found. http://www.thebonjours.net/mystery.html
I took a mirror and had a look around the general area but couldn't find anything that looked like it was missing anything.
Does anybody know what this is, what it does, and more importantly, how I can put it back?
Thanks for all the help I have got from here to get my 1995 Jeep back in shape.

It looks like part of the EGR valve that mounts on the rear of the valve cover, it will throw a code if not functioning properly, maybe it was broken and replaced long ago and that piece was just laying in there trapped.

Thank you for your help. Strange that the part does not appear to be broken in that all the faces are clean.
